FAQs & Session Information

What kind of photographer are you?

I specialize in newborn and family photography.

If you have any specific photography needs that are not included in my current portfolio, please feel to contact me to discuss further. I would love to accommodate special requests if my equipment and expertise will allow.

Where will my family session be held? Your session can be held outdoors at a location of your choice, or I have several outdoor locations for you to choose from. Your session can also be done on your property or in your home providing that your home has sufficient natural light.

*Location must be local to surrounding Frederick, MD areas or travel charge may apply. We will discuss this prior to booking.

What can I expect at my session?

Outside sessions are generally taken 1 hour before sunset at the "golden hour' where outside lighting is ideal. This time changes throughout the year but I will let you know what timeframe we are looking at when you book a session. It is imperative to arrive on time because of this specific window of light. Midday shooting in direct light causes harsh shadows, so this time is generally avoided. Earlier times may be suggested for cloudy days.

At home sessions will be held during the day to allow for sufficient lighting inside the house. My preference is always for natural light.

I always try to capture interaction and movement in my sessions. This may include playing, cuddling, dancing with the kids or spouse. Making the session fun and light can really bring out genuine expressions. I will work with the kids so you can focus on getting pictures taken - so just RELAX! I will try my best to make this an enjoyable laidback experience for all. Even some of the “misbehavior’ can make for some great memories and really capture your current phase of life.

What should I wear?

It’s important that you are comfortable, feel good and that your outfits reflect you & your family. I would avoid any florescent colors and large prints that will dominate your pictures. I would also try to avoid ‘high maintenance’ type clothing that require constant adjustments. Outfits don’t need to exactly match but should coordinate. I am happy to discuss this with you in further detail. Pinterest can also be a great resource for coordinating outfits & guides on what to wear.

Where will my newborn session be held and what can I expect?

Most newborn sessions are held in your home. These are meant to be stress free and easy. No cleaning required. Photographs are taken within your nursery, primary bedroom or anywhere you are comfortable. We normally discuss what areas you are open to when I arrive and then determine the best lighting situation.

I use natural posing for the newborn including swaddling and naked or ‘nearly naked' to capture their tiny body parts. Some of the session will be done in mom or dads’ arms or interacting with their sibling(s).  Some of the photographs will be taken during natural interactions with your baby and during breaks for changing, consoling and/or feedings. I believe these are the types of photographs that will be most cherished for many, many years to come.

I do not use many props aside from some small accessories including hand bands, swaddles, and hats (I have a selection I can bring if requested). I will also try to incorporate anything special at your request such as a special blanket, meaningful stuffed animal, etc. We will discuss together the best way to incorporate these items into your session if needed.

Allow up to 2 hours for the sessions to build in time for feeding, diaper changes, etc.

When should we have my newborn session?

The best answer is whenever ever you feel ready. The younger your newborn the more chance of him/her sleeping. I have done as young as 2 days and as old as 6 weeks and they are all great. Older newborns tend to be more alert but younger ones can be too. Typically, morning/mid-morning is best for a relaxed baby but it can be pushed to accommodate sibling naps, etc if needed.

Do you offer First 48 Sessions?

Yes. These sessions are done in the place of birth including the hospital or birthing center and normally take place within 48 hours of birth. Parents and siblings can be included in the session if desired. These sessions can take around 30 minutes and more time can be allowed if we need to break for nurse visits or feedings, etc., This is a great way to look back on your birthing experience and miracle of bringing a baby into this world.

What should I bring to a Graduating Senior Session?

These sessions are casual and can include 2 outfit changes. Consider a sports uniform, ball, instrument if your senior plays either. If you have anything representing the year of graduation (balloons, tassels, etc.) we can incorporate those as well.

What can I expect with a Business Branding Session?

These sessions will include you and team members if applicable. They can be done in your place of business and taken while you are in action (whether that is a team meeting, you working on your craft, etc). We can include headshots and take photographs of your products. These images will be perfect to promote your business through your  social media and business website. Photography needs will really vary from business to business, and we can set up a call to discuss your specific needs prior to the session.

How does the booking process work?

Reach out to me through the Contact & Booking page. From there I will get in touch with you and work out a time/date.

What is included in pricing (Investment)?

Pricing is all inclusive. This means all edited high resolution images from your session will be provided so you don't have to chose which photos from your gallery to purchase. I will also include some black and white images. A special link to your private online gallery will be emailed to you once your images are ready. You will have the option to download all digital images. I recommend using your preferred print vendor to order prints and albums. Print quality, including color can vary from vendor to vendor. I recommend Shutterfly and MPIX.
